Picture Wall

Finally got around to putting up our picture frames on the dining room wall.

They have been sitting in the understairs cupboard for months now while we decided on the pictures and orientation of each one.

This was something I saw in a bar in London quite a few years ago. That was all different frame shapes and sizes though and I always wanted to do it in the house. We've gone for a travel theme initially, though I suspect this will change over time.

Overall I'm happy with how it worked out, may even add an additional row of pictures below at a later stage.

Dining room dresser

Finally found a dresser that would fit into our 3 foot alcove next to the chimney in the dining room. More storage space!

Window Seat

Finally got the carpenter in after numerous delays by the decorator to build our dining room window seat.

We are both very happy with the final product as you can see below. Got some new software for my phone so I can upload more than one picture and show you the whole process.

The seats on both sides lift up so we can use them for storage. We'll cover it in foam padding and then have multiple cushions for behind your back. Still got to get a blind for the window!

Update: These will be the seats on one side of the dining table which we also still need to get!

Dining Room: Day Four

Almost done, I think he has some final coats to do on the woodwork and under the stairs but very happy with the sage green on the chimney and how the room has come together.

Dining Room: Day Two

The roof and above the picture rail have both been lined today. The coving has also been done. The decorator is coming along nicely and is hoping to be done by Tuesday, so there will be a couple more updates.

Dining Room: Day One

It's been a long time since the last post. The decorator has finally started after fracturing his arm in December. We were pushed back again after he started his other jobs late. Anyway, he's here now and has started preparing the walls for lining and painting the room. The should be a few updates over the next few days as he finishes off the room.

Dining room update

Just to update you all, the decorating in the dining room has been put on hold until January as the decorator slipped in the snow and fractured his arm :(

Sanding the dining room

We've spent the weekend sanding and varnishing the floors in preparation for the decorator coming next week. He's unfortunately fallen on ice and fractured his arm however so we're hoping he's going to be able to find us a replacement, otherwise we'll be doing it ourselves or waiting until next year :( fingers crossed!

More stripping

We spent today stripping the rest of the old wallpaper in the dining room, on our quest to finish the house. In the process, we've uncovered a hole near one of the radiators that we'll have to find a way to fill.

We've also been removing the old architrave around the doors and putting up new ones.

I think we're both starting to tire on the journey to the end, nearly there though.

Dining room lighting

Had an electrician come in yesterday to install a new lighting set up in the dining room. We've got four spot lights in each corner of the room, one of which you can see in the background.

Then for above where we are planning on having the dining table, we've had two drop lights installed. Both of these are on dimmer switches, for mood lighting :-)

Stripping the dining room

Before we lay down the carpet upstairs, we want to have new lights installed in the dining room. Hence the need to strip the ceiling and walls downstairs.

Paul & Marian came over to help over the weekend. The current wallpaper is about five layers deep, and we were working away until late in the evening to just get the ceiling done.
